Chivalry 2 has crossplay on every platform and cross-platform parties through friend codes. Here's how to team up, what to do when codes fail, and why progress doesn't transfer.

Yes, Chivalry 2 is crossplay across every version: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC on both Steam and the Epic Games Store. Cross-platform matchmaking has worked since launch day, and since the 2.8 Raiding Party update in 2023 you can also add friends from other platforms with a friend code and form a party together. What you can’t do is carry progress between platforms; Torn Banner dropped cross-progression.

The game is finished as far as new content goes. Torn Banner called it “content and feature complete” after the Regicide Update in May 2024 and said official servers, unofficial servers and matchmaking would stay online (Torn Banner, July 2024). Nothing found as of October 2026 says that has changed, so crossplay still works the way it’s described below.

What players run into with Chivalry 2 crossplay

The answer to “is it crossplay” is simple. The trouble is in the details of parties, friend codes and PC storefronts, and that’s where most forum threads end up.

“We swapped friend codes but can’t see each other”

This is the most persistent complaint. In a Steam thread called “Crossplay issue”, two players exchanged invite codes and neither showed up in the other’s friends list, even after new codes and a restart. Several others reported the same thing over the following months, and no fix was ever posted. One player said they gave up on the code and partied with Xbox friends through the Xbox app on PC instead. Torn Banner’s own advice in the 2.8 patch notes is to re-add the friend or restart the game, which is worth a try but clearly doesn’t always work.

“Can my Steam copy play with a friend on PS5?”

Yes. In a 2025 Steam discussion, one reply described crossplay as forced, with PlayStation, Xbox, Epic and Steam players all in the same lobbies, and another said they play with an Xbox friend. The official Chivalry 2 FAQ backs this up: the game has “Cross-Play between all platforms”.

“My friends are on Steam and I’m on Epic, and we can’t party”

That was true for the first two years. A frustrated Epic player in an April 2023 Steam thread couldn’t party with two Steam friends and called the crossplay claims misleading. A community officer replied that the crossplay parties beta was close, and it arrived weeks later with update 2.8. One reply after launch said the beta didn’t work for them, which fits the friend code problems above.

“Can I just meet my friend in the same match?”

Yes, and it’s the fallback when parties fail. Back in 2022, a PC player in a Steam thread got into games with a PS4 friend by having both of them pick the same server in the server browser. Torn Banner gave the same advice in its June 2022 FAQ. The 2025 thread above adds a tip for matchmaking: set the same region and keep trying servers until you land together.

Which platforms does Chivalry 2 crossplay cover?

All of them. Torn Banner’s FAQ lists the platforms and says cross-platform matchmaking has been in since launch on June 8, 2021.

Platform Crossplay matchmaking Cross-platform parties Shares progress with other platforms
PlayStation 5 and PS4 Yes Yes, via friend code (since 2.8) No
Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One Yes Yes, via friend code (since 2.8) No
PC, Steam Yes Yes, via friend code (since 2.8) No
PC, Epic Games Store Yes Yes, via friend code (since 2.8) No

Unofficial (community-hosted) servers, added in March 2024, are cross-platform too, per the Unofficial Servers FAQ. Only PC admins can run admin console commands on them, though.

How to play Chivalry 2 with friends on another platform

Friend codes are the official route. The 2.8 patch notes explain that every player can generate a unique code, and once a friend is added you can invite them and build a party from the main menu, whatever platform they’re on.

  1. Both players update the game and sign in.
  2. One player opens the friends area of the main menu and generates their friend code.
  3. Send that code to your friend outside the game (a message app works fine).
  4. Your friend enters the code to add you to their in-game Friend List.
  5. Once you see each other, invite your friend to a party from the main menu and queue together.

If the friend never appears, remove and re-add them or restart, as Torn Banner suggests. If that fails, skip the party and meet on the same server through the server browser. It’s clunkier, but it doesn’t depend on the friend system at all.

Two small catches from the patch notes’ known issues list: switching accounts while the game is open keeps the old friend invite code, so restart after signing in to a different account, and the in-game party list may not show every member.

Is there cross-progression in Chivalry 2?

No. Your level and everything you have earned stay on the platform where you earned them. Torn Banner first promised Epic-to-Steam progress transfers in 2022, then announced with the Reclamation Update in November 2023 that cross-progression between Epic Games Store and Steam profiles “will not be implemented”, admitting it had underestimated the cost. Its answer was to make the same cosmetics available on every platform.

That decision still annoys players. A long Steam thread asking how to move Epic progress to Steam was still getting replies in 2024 from people hoping for a transfer. If you’re choosing where to buy, buy on the platform your group plays on most, since starting over is the only option if you switch.

Can you turn off crossplay in Chivalry 2?

Torn Banner’s FAQ and patch notes don’t describe any crossplay toggle, and none of its other official posts mention one either. One player in the 2025 Steam discussion described crossplay as forced. If you’re on console and want to avoid PC players, don’t count on a setting for it.

Yes. PS5 players share matchmaking with PC players on Steam and Epic, and they can party with them after adding each other by friend code.
