Gligar has one evolution: Gliscor. To evolve Gligar, give it a Razor Fang to hold and level it up at night. There’s no set level, so a level 10 Gligar works as well as a level 60 one, and the Razor Fang is used up when it evolves. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus you skip the level-up and simply use the Razor Fang on Gligar at night, and in Pokémon GO it costs 100 candy plus a Sinnoh Stone.
That’s the whole rule. Where people get stuck is finding a Razor Fang in their particular game and making sure it actually counts as “night”, so both are covered game by game below.
Gligar evolution line at a glance
| Gligar | Gliscor | |
|---|---|---|
| National Dex | #0207 | #0472 |
| Type | Ground/Flying | Ground/Flying |
| Introduced | Generation II (Gold and Silver) | Generation IV (Diamond and Pearl) |
| Base stat total | 430 | 510 |
| How you get it | Catch it | Razor Fang + level up at night |
Stats are from Bulbapedia’s Gligar page and its Gliscor page. Gliscor gains 80 points spread across every stat, with Defense jumping from 105 to 125, and its abilities include Poison Heal. Like Gligar, it takes four times damage from Ice moves, so keep it away from Ice-types.
Where trainers trip up with Gligar
“Do I still have to level it up if it’s holding the Razor Fang at night?”
Yes. A trainer asked exactly this on PokéBase, the Pokémon Database Q&A board, and the answer was short: the item and the time of day only set up the evolution. Gligar still needs one level-up, from battle experience, an Exp. Candy or a Rare Candy, to trigger it. Bulbapedia’s wording matches: it evolves “when leveled up while holding a Razor Fang during the night”.
“My Gligar is level 100 and it never evolved”
This one came up on a SuperCheats Q&A page for Pokémon Black. The top answer pointed out that a level 100 Pokémon can’t level up again, so in older games it’s stuck. Newer games fixed that: from Generation VIII onward, Bulbapedia notes that a Rare Candy used on a level 100 Pokémon makes it evolve without gaining a level, as long as it meets its requirements. In Scarlet and Violet, that means Razor Fang held, night time, then a Rare Candy.
Razor Claw or Razor Fang?
The same SuperCheats page shows another classic mix-up, with one reply telling the player to use a Razor Claw. That’s the wrong item. The Razor Claw is for Sneasel, which becomes Weavile at night. Gligar needs the Razor Fang. The names are close, so double-check what Gligar is holding before you start grinding levels.
No trade needed
A few online guides tell you to trade Gligar at night. You don’t need to. Bulbapedia and Serebii both list a night-time level-up with the Razor Fang held, and that’s all it takes. Trading only comes into it if your version can’t catch Gligar in the first place.
How to evolve Gligar into Gliscor
- Get a Razor Fang (locations for each game are in the table further down).
- Open your party, pick Gligar and choose Give (or Give to Pokémon), then select the Razor Fang.
- Wait until it’s night in your game. The DS and 3DS games and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl follow your console clock; Scarlet and Violet run their own clock.
- Level Gligar up once, by winning a battle or using a Rare Candy or Exp. Candy.
- Let the evolution animation finish. The Razor Fang disappears once Gliscor appears.
When does night start?
Night isn’t the same window in every game. Per Bulbapedia’s time guide:
- Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: 8:00 PM to 3:59 AM.
- X and Y: 9:00 PM to 3:59 AM.
- Black and White (and the sequels): depends on the in-game season, starting as early as 7:00 PM in winter.
- Legends: Arceus: 9:00 PM to 4:59 AM, on the game’s own clock.
- Scarlet and Violet: a full day and night cycle takes 72 real minutes, and night lasts about 33 of them. Wait for the sky to go dark, then level up.
Evolving Gligar in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Gligar is part of The Teal Mask DLC, so you need the expansion to catch one. Serebii’s Scarlet and Violet Pokédex lists wild Gligar in Kitakami only in Scarlet: Fellhorn Gorge, Kitakami Wilds, Oni Mountain, Paradise Barrens, Timeless Woods and Wistful Fields. It also shows up in 3-star Tera Raids. Violet players need a trade.
For the Razor Fang, you have four options according to Bulbapedia and Serebii:
- Wistful Fields: a single Razor Fang sits in a small cave at the north end. GGRecon’s walkthrough places it at the back of the small cave on the right once you get there.
- Kitakami Pokédex reward: register 110 Pokémon, then open the Kitakami Pokédex and press X to claim it.
- Ogre Oustin’ minigame rewards (repeatable).
- Item Printer in The Indigo Disk (repeatable).
The Wistful Fields fang is the quickest if you only want one Gliscor.
Evolving Gligar in Pokémon Legends: Arceus
Legends: Arceus works differently. You don’t level up with a held item. Instead, open your bag at night, choose the Razor Fang and use it on Gligar, and it evolves right away. Gligar lives in the Coronet Highlands and Alabaster Icelands and appears in mass outbreaks.
Razor Fangs here come from several places, per Bulbapedia:
- The trading post in Jubilife Village for 1,400 Merit Points.
- The Ginkgo Guild cart, where it can appear as a random “Mystery Fang”.
- Space-time distortions, which drop items on the ground.
- Wild Gligar and Gliscor, which can carry one (Bulbapedia lists an 8% chance for Gliscor).
Where to get a Razor Fang in other games
| Game | Where to find Gligar | Where to get a Razor Fang |
|---|---|---|
| Diamond and Pearl | Route 206, among other routes | Battle Park, 48 BP |
| Platinum | Route 206, among other routes | Routes 214 and 225 (one each), or Battle Frontier for 48 BP |
| HeartGold and SoulSilver | Route 45 (HeartGold); trade in SoulSilver | Battle Frontier, 48 BP |
| Black and White | Routes 11 and 15 | Abundant Shrine, treasure hunters on Route 13, or Battle Subway for 48 BP |
| Black 2 and White 2 | Routes 11, 15 and 23 | Route 11, Battle Subway or Pokémon World Tournament |
| X and Y | Route 19 (horde encounters) | Battle Maison, 48 BP |
| Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl | Grand Underground caves (Brilliant Diamond); trade in Shining Pearl | Battle Park, 5 BP |
| Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon | Transfer only (Pokémon Bank) | Held by wild Bruxish (5% chance) |
Sources for the table: Bulbapedia’s Gligar locations and Razor Fang item page. Gligar isn’t in Sword and Shield, and as of October 2026 Bulbapedia lists it as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A too. In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl the 5 BP price makes Razor Fangs cheap enough to buy one for every Gligar on your team.
Gligar evolution in Pokémon GO
Pokémon GO drops the night and held-item rules. According to the Pokémon GO Wiki, you need 100 Gligar Candy and one Sinnoh Stone. Sinnoh Stones are scarce, so it’s worth saving them for Pokémon you actually plan to use.
Frequently asked questions
What level does Gligar evolve at?
Gligar has no evolution level. It evolves into Gliscor at any level, as long as it levels up at night while holding a Razor Fang.
Can Gligar evolve during the day?
No. The level-up has to happen at night. In Legends: Arceus you use the Razor Fang on it at night instead of levelling it.
Does Gligar need to be traded to evolve?
No. Some guides mention trading, but the requirement is a level-up at night with a Razor Fang held. No trade is involved.
Is the Razor Fang used up?
Yes. The Razor Fang is consumed when Gligar evolves, so you need a new one for each Gligar.
Is Gligar in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
As of October 2026, Bulbapedia lists both Gligar and Gliscor as unobtainable in Legends: Z-A.
How do you evolve Gligar in Pokémon GO?
Feed it 100 Gligar Candy and use one Sinnoh Stone. Time of day doesn’t matter there.
